IBEDC Acting MD, Agoha urges caution around electrical installations during rainy season

Oredola Adeola

Engr. Francis Agoha, Acting Managing Director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), has appealed to customers to exercise caution around electrical installations as the rainy season continues.

Busolami Tunwase, IBEDC’s spokesperson made this known in a statement obtained by Advisors Reports on Thursday.

According to the statement, Engr. Agoha during a facility inspection as part of a tour of the company’s equipment following his appointment, highlighted the increased risk of electrical accidents during the rainy period.

The Acting MD emphasized the importance of taking proactive steps to safeguard lives and property, stressing that the safety of customers and stakeholders remains IBEDC’s top priority.

“The safety of our stakeholders is paramount,” Agoha stated.

“We are dedicated to providing a secure and dependable power supply while educating our communities on staying safe during the rainy season.

“Through vigilant maintenance, rapid emergency response, and continuous public outreach, we strive to minimize risks,” Engr. Agoha said.

He further urged customers to avoid contact with power lines that may fall during heavy rains and storms, recommending that such incidents should be reported to IBEDC’s emergency services immediately.

“Refrain from walking through flooded areas or touching electrical fixtures, as flooded zones pose significant hazards, especially if electrical equipment is involved.

“Regularly check that your home or business’s electrical connections are secure and protected from water, paying attention to exposed wires or malfunctioning connections.

“Wear rubber-soled shoes and avoid metal objects when outdoors during heavy rainfall to minimize the risk of electrical accidents,” he said.

Engr. Agoha therefore assured that IBEDC is always reachable in case of emergencies, including electrical hazards or power disruptions.
