NERC slashes Band A electricity tariff by 8.1% to N206.80/kwH

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued the May 2024 supplementary order downwardly revising the tariff for Band A feeders, from N225 per kilowatt hour (kWh) to N206.80/kWh, effective from the 6th of May 2024.

 

Advisors Reports gathered that this review is contained in the NERC May 2024 supplementary order on Band A tariff issued to all the electricity distribution companies (DisCos).

 

The revision comes with the assurance of a guaranteed availability of 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily.

 

Advisors Reports confirmed that the tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E will remain unchanged, ensuring stability for customers in these bands.

 

Dr Musiliu Oseni, NERC Vice Chairman, in an exclusive chat with Advisors Reports confirmed that the May 2024 Supplementary Order was sent to the DisCos over the weekend.

 

 Kingsley Okotie, the Head of Corporate Communication at Ikeja Electric, in a chat with Advisors Reports on Monday, confirmed that effective from May 1, 2024, there has been a downward revision of the tariff for Band A feeders, reducing it from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh, with the new rate taking effect from the 6th of May 2024.
He stated that the development was in compliance with the NERC Order on Band A tariff for the month of May.
Meanwhile, in a statement earlier released by Ikeja Electric to its customers, the DisCo stated that the adjustment comes with a commitment to ensuring a guaranteed availability of 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily.
Additionally, the statement affirmed that the tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E will remain unchanged, maintaining stability for customers in these bands.
Babatunde Lasaki, the General Manager of Corporate Communications at Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), has also confirmed the downward review of the Band A tariff in a chat with Advisors Reports on Monday.
According to Lasaki, Band A customers within the EKEDC network will see a downward revision in their tariff, effective from May 1, 2024, from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh.
The EKEDC’s spokesman also stated that the review also comes with a guaranteed minimum daily supply of 20 hours, adding that the tariffs for the other Bands B,C, D and E remains unchanged.
He therefore assures the customers all customers under the network of improved quality of service.
