NERC approves 21 “Band A” feeders for EKEDC in 3 out of 10 districts

… 160 feeders moved to Band B; as guaranteed minimum power supply reduced to 16hrs daily

Oredola Adeola

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved 21 Band A feeders with a minimum of 20 hours of power supply per day in three out of ten districts, while the remaining 160 feeders in the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) franchise areas will have a minimum of 16 hours of power supply per day for various customer service categories.

This was obtained by Advisors Reports exclusively obtained via NERC data sheet and partly confirmed in a publication released by EKEDC on Sunday.

The increase in electricity tariff for Band A customers, who are those who enjoy 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily, has been implemented to reduce the $2.3 billion spent on subsidies.

The new tariff plan affects 15% of the 12 million electricity customers in the country, with customers paying ₦225 kilowatts per hour, up from the current ₦66.

Advisors Reports gathered that three districts with Feeders that will enjoy a minimum of 20 hours of electricity daily are the Island District, the Lekki District, and the Orile District.

Meanwhile Advisors Reports’ check showed that a total of 160 feeders are classified under Band B with minimum duration of 16 hours of power supply per day.

Some of them are downgraded by NERC from Band A to Band B due to non-fulfilment of the required hours of electricity provided by the electricity distribution company.

EKEDC has 10 districts, including West Circle with three districts (Agbara, Ojo, and Festac), Central Circle with four districts (Ijora, Mushin, Orile, and Apapa), and East Circle with three districts (Lekki, Ibeju, and Island.
