Nigerian Energy Correspondents elect Ugo Amadi of The Champions as Chairman

Ugo Amadi, the Energy Editor of The Champions newspaper, has been elected as the Chairman of the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC), with Adeola Yusuf, the publisher of The Platforms Africa, as Vice Chairman, and three other executives, to steer the association’s course over the next two years.

 

The fresh set of energy editors’ executives were elected in an election held at the NAEC National Secretariat in Obanikoro, Lagos on Saturday, March 16, 2024, marking the conclusion of the two-term chairmanship of Olu Phillips of Channels TV.

 

In a lineup of new appointments, Peter Uzoho, Energy Editor of Thisday newspapers secured the position of the association’s fresh general secretary. Anthony Ebigie, a seasoned Senior Energy Correspondent at AIT, clinched the role of the association’s newly elected treasurer.

 

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shosanya from Daily Independent steps into the position of the association’s new financial secretary.

 

Emeka Ugwuanyi, MD/Editor-in-Chief, The Business Intelligence Africa (TBI Africa), who was the chairman of the electoral committee, in his remark after the keen contest, emphasized the importance of fostering peace and maintaining harmonious relationships among members.

 

He therefore urged the new members to prioritize unity, nurture a culture of mutual respect and affection for all, emphasizing the collective well-being of the association.

 

Advisors Reports gathered that the newly elected executive committee’s term is set to span from 2024 to 2026, heralding a period of potential growth, innovation, and collaboration within the organization. 

 

The new NAEC Chairman in his acceptance speech, after the election, emphasized his dedication to fostering peace and unity among members as a fundamental policy guiding his administration’s tenure.

 

Ugo had earlier in his election promises, seen by Advisors Reports, highlighted his extensive experience and commitment to providing visionary and strategic leadership for the association.

 

Having served in various capacities within NAEC, including Vice Chairman, PRO, and Conference Chairman for multiple flagship conferences, Ugo therefore expressed confidence in his ability to lead effectively.

 

His promises encompass a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing the association’s operations and member welfare. These include:

  • Restoring the dignity of NAEC
  • Developing a clear vision for the association’s future
  • Upholding ethical leadership and the constitution
  • Enhancing knowledge and capacity building for members
