Balarabe Lawal, Minister of Environment, is expected to lead an array of top government officials, business leaders, and sustainability experts to Lagos on Friday, October 17, 2025, for the Nigeria Environment Outlook 2025, organised by Environment Africa Magazine — a high-level forum dedicated to advancing Nigeria’s environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development.

Sam Nwosu, Editor-in-Chief of Environment Africa Magazine, disclosed this in a statement made available to Advisors Reports on Thursday.

He noted that the event, organised in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment and powered by NatureHedge, is themed “Shaping a Greener Present for a Sustainable and Resilient Future.” The forum, he said, will focus on strengthening public–private partnerships, promoting environmental compliance, and mainstreaming sustainability across key sectors of Nigeria’s economy.

According to Sam Nwosu, “This year’s Outlook is not just a review — it’s a rallying point for collaboration. Nigeria’s environmental future depends on shared commitment between government, industry, and civil society to translate ideas into measurable, lasting impact.”

He explained that the 2025 edition of the Outlook aims to align Nigeria’s green policy ambitions with tangible and collaborative actions across sectors.

Top 100 Environmental and Sustainability Professionals to Be Honoured

A major highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the 2nd Edition of Nigeria’s Top 100 Environmental Professionals, an annual recognition celebrating individuals driving innovation, research, and policy transformation in the environmental space.

The inaugural edition in 2024 honoured pioneering figures in environmental leadership and advocacy, while this year’s edition continues that legacy by spotlighting a new generation of leaders advancing climate resilience, circular economy integration, green enterprise, and sustainability initiatives nationwide.

Nwosu confirmed that the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, who is also a nominee in the 2025 Top 100 Environmental Professionals listing, will deliver the Special Guest of Honour address at the event.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Eugene Itua, Executive Director of the African Green Economy and Sustainability Institute (AGESI). The forum will also feature two panel discussions and a thematic breakout session exploring green economy pathways, sustainable infrastructure, and institutional accountability across 13 engagement themes.

Policymakers, academics, and private sector leaders are expected to exchange insights on how cross-sector collaboration can accelerate Nigeria’s sustainability goals.

The 2025 edition enjoys strong support from both public and private sector stakeholders, including Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), Heirs Energies, and the Asteven Group.

Institutional and civil society partners such as the Civil Society Strategy Group on SDGs (CSOSG-SDGs), the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEA–A), and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) are also supporting the initiative — reflecting a broad coalition committed to advancing Nigeria’s environmental and climate action agenda.

The Nigeria Environment Outlook 2025 will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the VCP Hotel, Ajose Adeogun, Victoria Island, Lagos.
