UPDATED: Leadership shake-up at EKEDC: Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh takes helm as Acting MD/CEO, Dr. Sanda returns to WPG

Oredola Adeola

The Board of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has officially announced Mrs Rekhiat Momoh, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer, following the redeployment of Dr. Tinuade Sanda to West Power & Gas Ltd.

This development follows a directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) received by the Board, which led to the redeployment of Dr. Tinuade Sanda, and other top executives who were previously seconded staff from West Power & Gas Ltd, the owner of EKEDC.

Mr. Dere Otubu, EKEDC Board Chairman, in a letter seen by Advisor Reports revealed that the latest development was in compliance with the directive from NERC.

According the Otubu, “We have received a directive from NERC stating that all staff working for the utility must be employed directly by the utility, bound by applicable service conditions that are applicable to the employees of the utility, and paid through the utility’s payroll.

“The Disco is obligated to comply with these directives due to the powers of NERC as stipulated in the Electricity Act 2023. In compliance with the aforementioned directive, all seconded staff from WPG Ltd are being released by Eko Electricity Distribution Plc and returned to WPG Ltd.

“Accordingly, you are hereby relieved of your role, office, and position at Eko Electricity Distribution Plc effectively immediately, and returned to your employer, WPG Ltd.”

Meanwhile, the management of EKEDC in a statement titled: RECENT MANAGEMENT CHANGES AT EKO DISCO and obtained by Advisors Reports revealed that Mrs Rekhiat Momoh has on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, assumed the role of Acting CEO of Eko Disco.

According to the statement, Mrs Momoh has been in the power sector for more than 31 meritorious years.

The EKEDC’s management in the statement said, “Mrs Momoh has risen through the ranks in the power sector from the days of NEPA, PHCN and now Eko Disco, receiving several excellence awards, commendations and medals along the way.

“A marketer by training, she has an MBA from Lagos State University. She’s a fellow of several organisations including Nigeria Institute of Management, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria and several others. She has attended several leadership and management courses and training programmes both locally and internationally.

The Board of Eko Electricity Distribution Plc therefore reaffirmed confidence in the ability of Mrs Momoh to perform the role company’s MD/CEO effectively, assuring that she has the capacity to take the company to greater heights.

Advisors Reports’ findings showed that the NERC’s directive was in response to the alleged infractions within the top management of EKEDC, accusing one of the top staff of WPG of facilitating ghost workers and profiting from illicit activities.

A petition by Ayiwe Peter, an Acting Principal Manager Community Relations/CSR, addressed to the Chairman/Board members of EKEDC, called for the removal of all WPG secondees.
