Dr. Mobereola takes helm at NIMASA as DG, sets sail for a four-year term

Oredola Adeola

Dr. Ekundayo Mobereola, Chairman of Board, Lagos Bus Services Limited, and a former Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, has been appointed as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for a renewable term of four years.

This decision follows the exit of Mr. Bashir Jamoh, whose tenure ended on March 10, 2024.

President Bola Tinubu confirmed Mobereola’s appointment through Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity on Tuesday.

Mobereola, with a Ph.D. and an M.Sc in Transport Economics from the University of Wales, United Kingdom, is expected to leverage his extensive experience in transportation and governance to lead NIMASA in promoting maritime safety, security, and shipping development in Nigeria.

His background includes roles at British Petroleum Shipping Limited in London, showcasing his expertise in the field.

President Tinubu expects Mobereola to uphold world-class standards in maritime safety administration, maritime labour regulation, marine pollution prevention and control, search and rescue operations, cabotage enforcement, shipping development, and ship registration.

The new Director-General, who was Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), is tasked with aligning NIMASA’s operations with the policies and programs of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the sector under the guidance of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Advisors Reports further gathered that Mobereola’s appointment signifies a strategic move towards enhancing maritime operations in Nigeria under his leadership at NIMASA.
