The Management of Kaduna Electric has criticized the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) for their decision to initiate a strike at the onset of the Holy month of Ramadan, describing the action as ill-advised which has not only disrupted essential services but also adds further strain on the already burdened Nigerian populace.

Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Kaduna Electric Head, Corporate Communication, made this known in a statement released and obtained by Advisors Reports on the sideline of the NUEE’s industrial action over historic debts accumulated under two previous managements of the DisCo.

The Kaduna Electric in the statement emphasized that the strike action embarked upon by members of the NUEE is completely unjustified and should be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.

The management of the DisCo said, “For emphasis, the union’s demand for payment of outstanding pension arrears which is the supposed justification for forcing misery on citizens is part of the historic debts accumulated under two previous managements.

“One wonders why the union failed to prioritize the payments then until now. This is a clear indication that the union has other motives yet unknown to us,” he stated.

The statement highlighted the proactive approach taken by the new management of Kaduna Electric, led by Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, MD/CEO, who assumed office in January this year.

Abdullahi in the statement further stated that since his appointment, Dr. Hashidu has shown a strong willingness to collaborate with the unions to drive Kaduna Electric towards progress.

He also noted that Dr. Hashidu has conducted numerous meetings with employees and NUEE members to gain their support for his strategic initiatives aimed at revitalizing the company.

He added that despite these efforts, the decision of NUEE to resort to industrial action instead of engaging in constructive dialogue is perplexing.

The spokesperson said, “The management’s dedication to employee well-being is resolute, evident in the prompt salary increments implemented within the CEO’s first month in office and the assurance of timely salary payments.

“Additionally, plans are in place to settle all outstanding obligations as financial resources permit,” he added. 

Abdullahi therefore emphasized that the strike action serves no beneficial purpose except for a few individuals with unclear motives. He urged Kaduna Electric’s customers to disregard the strike and continue their interactions with the company without hindrance.
